The Tongue and the Heart

Today during my quiet time I read James 3:1-11 it talks about the tongue. what is the the tongue and why does James find it important for Christians?
" Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life,[a] and set on fire by hell.[b] For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers,[c] these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? 12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water. (James 3:1-11)
We are evil people with evil hearts. If we aren't careful our evil hearts and minds can be seen by a small but important member of our body's, the tongue. See like James tells us we cant tame our tongue. Its evil just like our hearts and without Christ we are nothing but a ship that's rudder is directed by our evil heart away from Christ. See we need Christ. We need him to be the captain of out ship.

Look at it this way. If our tongue directs us like a rudder directs a ship, and our tongue is fueled by by our hearts and minds, we will be like the Titanic, we will sail into unsafe water and hit icebergs. If we put our life in Christ hands and let him be our captain and let him direct us in calm and troubled waters then we will have nothing to worry about.

So don't be the captain of your ship, don't let your tongue direct your character. Let Christ direct your path and captain your ship.

This Psalm help me today.

 "I remembered you, God, and I groaned;
    I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.[b]
 You kept my eyes from closing;
    I was too troubled to speak.
I thought about the former days,
    the years of long ago;
 I remembered my songs in the night.
    My heart meditated and my spirit asked:
 “Will the Lord reject forever?
    Will he never show his favor again?
 Has his unfailing love vanished forever?
    Has his promise failed for all time?
 Has God forgotten to be merciful?
    Has he in anger withheld his compassion?
 Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:
    the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.
 I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
    yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
 I will consider all your works
    and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
 Your ways, God, are holy.
    What god is as great as our God?
 You are the God who performs miracles;
    you display your power among the peoples.
With your mighty arm you redeemed your people,
    the descendants of Jacob and Joseph"
(Psalms 77:3-15)

Again keep me in your prayers. You are in mine. You are loved!
