For about two years of my life (ages 5-6) the only way I could sleep in my own room was if my father slept in the room with me. Now I'm sure he left the room after I had fallen asleep but at that time I didn't know that. Now if I had known that I would have freaked out. Just like I would have if he didn't sleep in the same room as me. Now most kids would have need a nightlight in there room but me, I needed my dad. See my dad was my best friend, my hero, my protector. Sure a nightlight would protect me from evil monsters, Cruella De Vil, Captain Hook, and Scar from the Lion King, that is as long as the walked into the nightlight light. But see a nightlight only lights up some of the room what happens if they stay in the shadows? Who will save me then? See to me my light was my dad. Without him, no matter if i had a nightlight or not I felt a void from my light (my dad). I was lost, I couldn't see, my hope was gone, I felt unprotected because I couldn't see what was to come.
The same thing happens to those who don't have Christ. Without him we are void from the light (Christ) which guides, directs, and protects us.
Isaiah 42:16 "I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them."
The world we live in is not a good one. It is hard, sad, and depressing. Its hard to have hope when you get picked on at school, your parents are getting a divorce. Its hard to think you can ever have assurance in life when your husband or wife has been cheating on you, or you're being let go from your job of twenty years.
Psalms 36:9 "For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light."
Psalms 139:12 "even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you."Life is not fair, it is not easy. You will have downs and you will have up's. If we only cover up our pain and sorrow, or our fears and anxiety's with worldly things like alcohol, drugs, money, and relationships. Then we just put out our nightlight. Yeah, it makes things a little nicer, but the room is still dark. Only Christ can heal your wounds, only Christ can protect you from the evil depressing world we live in. Christ is the only one who can light up ALL of your darkness.
Matthew 5:14-16 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Psalms 139:12 "even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you."
